<< Phase42.net is now Mister-Rik.com >>

Hi, I'm Rik Osborne. I'm an amateur musician, amateur Web designer, and wannabee novelist from Wenatchee, Washington, USA. I've lived in Wenatchee since 1983, where I have labored in the foodservice industry for 25 years, mostly as a cook. From March 2006 through October 2008 I held the esteemed position of dishwasher at the Wenatchee Convention Center. Hey, it gave me a 401k, insurance, and a paid vacation. However, I just got promoted. As of November 1, 2008, I'm a banquet chef!

I like to play at Improbable Island:

"Improbable Island is a free multiplayer text-adventure game that you play in your browser. It's all about a machine that generates Improbability. Since the machine has gone crazy and started to generate Improbability in highly improbable ways, it must be stopped before it turns the world into a lemon. That's where you come in!"

In addition to being a player, I'm also the creator of four of the horrifying monsters that appear in the game:

The Union Member With Seniority!

The Whining Old-School Gamer!

The Scotsman Clad in Kilt!

The Beholder of the Behinder!

I Read a Lot

It's true. When I'm not surfing the Web, posting to forums, designing Web pages, playing my bass, bicycling, or slaving away at work, I read books. At the moment I'm reading The Dark Disciple Vol. 1: Amber and Ashes by Margaret Weis.

Mister-Rik.com version 11.0

Unlike version 10.0 of this site, this design is all my own work. It looks simple, but it wasn't. The idea was to simulate old-style frames using CSS, with the navigation links on the left remaining in place while the rest of the page scrolls freely. It was more work than I expected, but I finally got the desired results.

Special thanks to arwen54 over at Open Web Design for helping me get the CSS positioning to work properly in Internet Explorer. Why oh why can't Microsoft follow standards? (I actually created this layout a couple years ago, and it worked in IE 5.2 for the Mac, as well as whatever version of IE was in use under Windows XP. I can't vouch for whatever version of IE is used by Vista. Sorry.)
